Feature Lede- Final Article
As most of us know, the 2014 baseball season hasn't been the best we've seen from the Boston Red Sox. However, on Tuesday June 17th Boston fans were pleasantly surprised. The Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins with a score of 2-1. It was clear who was the superstar of the game for the Sox was, Brock Holt. As a rookie, Holt has played several different positions this season. On Tuesday, Holt made both hits for the Red Sox that won them the game. Holt also made an amazing catch at the end of the third inning. Left fielder, Jonny Gomes signalled that he couldn't see the ball, luckily Holt saw and made the catch. In the end, the Sox beat the twins giving boston fans hope for this season.
Persuasive Sports Essay
People say that privacy is privilege, and if your life is thrown into the spot light, privacy is hard to come by. We all know the case of Donald Sterling, the owner of the NBA team the Clippers. A tape of him making rasict remarks serviced on TMZ. The person who taped this conversation was Sterlings mistress(parade.condenast.com). Because this tape was put out in public it was brought to the attention of the NBA. The NBA banned Sterling from the NBA or life. He was also told to pay a 2.5 million dollar fine(theblaze.com). However, the small but very important detail everyone seems to be ignoring is the fact that this conversation was taped in private and Donald Sterling had no idea he was being recorded.
Clearly, Sterling is not a very good person and makes poor life choices. I mean the man is married and he brings the woman that he's cheating on her with to games and in public like it's no big deal. After the press conference that was held announcing that Sterling was banned from the NBA and had to pay a 2.5 million dollar fine, it was said that the NBA wanted to make Sterling sell the clippers. Most of the country believes that this is a smart decision. Someone who owns a team that employs African American athletes should know better than to make racist and affense remarks like Sterling did. Something like that doesn't deserve to own a successful basketball team like the Clippers, which is very true. However, to be fair you have to look at the situation from all angles.
Yes, everything that Donald sterling said was wrong and completely inappropriate and being banned from the NBA along with a 2.5 million dollar fine seems justifed. However, making him sell his team is taking it too far. The conservation that leaked to the media was spoken in private. Sterling also did not know that he was being recorded. V. Stiviano more than likely leaked that tape to the press because she wanted attention and money. Also, Donald Sterling whos the team with his wife. Forcing him to give up the team will mean making her give the team as well. If Shelly Sterling wants to sell her part of the team than thats fine. But she should be able to make that decision on her own and not be force to because of her husbands ignorants. Donald Sterling is a poor example of the human race, but he should not be forced to sell his team over a private conversion.

NCAA Unionization
1. Yes, college athletes should be allowed to unionize. If they feel that creating a union with help make their team stronger and more functional, than they should be allowed to do it.
2. Unionizing is one thing, but I don't believe that college athletes should be getting paid to play a sport at the college they go to. The goal of going to college is to get an education so you can earn a degree and work at a good job. If you choose to play a sport thats great, and you might even get reconized by important people in the professional sports world. However, until that happens athletes should not be getting paid to play a sport at the college they go to because thats not the main reason why they are there.
3. Even though I don't support the idea of college athletes recieving a salary for playing a college sport, athletes should still recieve a degree even if they are getting a salary. Students and their familys pay a lot of money to go to college to earn a degree. If a school is giving college athletes a salary, that was their choice. So they shouldn't take away the chance for the students to earn a degree, because that could limit them in the future. And also, their family paid a large sum of money for no reason.

A Leage Of Their Own
Now adays, there a only a few professional womens leagues left. However, I don't think its because people still believe that men are superior to women. Throughout history, women have proved that they deserve as much respect as men do and that they can do anything they want to. The way people view women and respect women has changed dramatically. So I don't think that the beliefs that people had in the 1940's reflects the lack of professional women's sports leagues today. I believe that the reason women only have profession basketball and soccer leagues has a lot to do with popularity. Even though there are several different womens sports that are popular, basketball and soccer maybe the two most watched womens sports leagues, and that's why they are professional.

Fallon Fox
1. The MMA should allow transgender people to fight in the gender group that they transitioned into. Fallon went through the process to be a women. In her heart she knows she is a women, so the MMA shouldn't tell a person they can't find in the male or female group because they weren't born a male or female.
2. No, because they went through intense hormonal treatment to become the gender that they wanted to be. the point of the hormone treatment is to change your body and make it feel the way it would feel if you were originally born a male or female. The doctor explained in the interview that when a man transitions into a women there muscle mass goes down, they red blood cell count goes down, so a transgender person has as much of an advantage as a person who was born male or female.
3. It wouldn't be any different to me than if I was fighting a women who was born a women. I wouldn't think of her having an advantage over me just because she was born a man, the only thing I would be thinking about is whether or not she is more skilled at fighting than me. If I said that she only beat me or could only beat me because she was born a man, then I'm not giving her credit for the work she has put into her career and the talent that she clearly has.
4. The transgender athlete should be honest with their medical history. If they want to be respected as a transgender athlete then they should be honest from the beginning. Fans will have less respect for an athlete if they aren't honest from the beginning of their career. The MMA should also be more open minded when they handle a situation with a transgender athlete. Instead of saying a transgender women will have an advantage because they were born a man, look at whether or not there is a risk to their opponents safety.

What is a Sport
I think that activities that require physical movement and exercise should be considered a sport. Also activities that are also competitive that also include physical movement and exercise should be considered a sport. An activity should be considered just an activity when it doesn't require a lot of physical activity. Personally, I feel that cheerleading should be considered a sport because it involves a lot of physical activity. Cheerleaders have to be able to lift another person in the air, throw them and the catch them. Although cheerleaders are on the sidelines at football games cheering for the football team, they also compete in competitions that can be very difficult and dangerous. Activities where someone could possibly get hurt should be considered a sport.
Even though pin pong and curling are in the Olympics, I don't believe they should be considered a sport. Although ping pong and curling are competitive activities, they don't require much physical movement. In ping pong, it has the same concept as tennis, but the players don't have to run back and forth as much they do in tennis. And in curling, all you really have to do is sweep in front of the block. You're not really doing much, its really all depends on how fast the block is going. because of the little physical effort both ping pong and curling require, I don't think they should be considered sports.
Activities don't have to be played with a ball to be consider a sport. Activities such as track and field, and cheerleading should be consider a sport even though they don't require a ball. Also, some activities that do require a ball shouldn't necessarily be consider a sport, such as ping pong. Activities shouldn't require a ball to be considered a sport. It should depend on whether or not they require physical movement.

Sports Article Response: Red Soxs vs. White Soxs
On April 16th, 2014 after losing 3 games in a row, the Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago White Sox 6 to 4. The win was a sigh of relief for the players and Red Sox fans considering the team hadn't lost 4 games in a row since 2012. Considering the world series victory that the Red Sex earned in the 2013 season, this slow start is more than just a little disapointing. However, true boston fans such as myself have faith in this team. Through all the sadness felt throughout Boston and New England last year, the team pulled out an amazing victory in the world series giving the people of Boston and New England hope and happiness. A team that has that much love and pride will no doubt come out of this slum that they are in and surprise the whole country once more.
